With walk outs and protests and so much division going on in our country right now I wanted to go back to the roots. Back to the beginning when things were simple, peaceful, and joyful. Life during Jesus’ time on earth was anything but the things listed above. They were challenging for his disciples and for the Romans and jews and for him. I don’t really think theres ever been an easy time. Nowadays I think that the movements going on and government decisions being made are taken so much worse than they appear because of the time period we are in. With social media and technology, so many subjects are blown out of proportion and the news isn’t genuine anymore. Stories that get the most views are told over the ones that are the most important. These days seem worse than back in Jesus’ day because so much now is publicized. But, to be frank, the disciples had no easy path. What seemed difficult to them may not seem challenging now, but what the disciples faced was just as hard, they just faced it at a different time. I often imagine being born in that time, walking alongside Jesus. Many people despised followers of Jesus, rather than praise them. Would I be willing to be hated openly and in public because I followed Christ? For many christians, this is still the case, but gratefully for most of us in the states, it is not. We are able to gather and worship freely and without, for the most part, consequence. I look at our world as a 18 year old college freshman who is just beginning to form her own opinions of the world and the honest truth is, our world is a mess. I don’t know how to form my opinions because so many are being tossed around. We are fighting against each other instead of with each other and i’ve said it before, but many people believe that God isn’t present through this. So many ask where he is in the hurt and division, but he has always been here and he always will be. God has called us to be present. Present in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, and self control and from where I’m sitting, I see none of that. We’ve taken our rights and blown them out of proportion for the sake of being right. We want so badly for our voices to be heard that we’re not listening for the one that should be glorified. We are too busy fighting for our own voices and asking where God is to open a=our eyes and see that we’re covering it up with what we want. Voicing our opinions about guns all over our Facebook pages gets us nowhere but into arguments. Why are we listening to news that only feeds us lies for answers when theres a book full of life and truth that will aid us so much more than information that is formatted to anger and hurt us. We are living in a world where being heard and having opinions that are built off of lies is more important than standing back and giving God the glory. Times are hard and our country is becoming divided, but there is only one thing that will bring it together, and arguing over whether someones black or white, a republican or a democrat, for guns, or not for guns, is not it. Bring Jesus back into this world. Talk about what you’ve learned about him or where you’ve seen him in your live rather than about your opinions on the government. We are fixing our problems with the duck tape that is our opinions rather than with Jesus whom is the everlasting glue. He made us for so much more than all of this,
It's been a rough week getting back into my routine in college and writing always helps me recollect my thoughts. This is an unusual topic for me nonetheless, but I felt compelled to share it with you all tonight. As always, thank you so much for reading! God bless, Sydney
